  • Fairness and Bias in AI

    09h30 - 10h00

AI has shown many real-world successes over the past few years, including in areas like medical assistants, chatbots, inventory robots, and self-driving cars. At its core, AI makes predictions: will person X pay or default? Does person X have cancer or not? Will person X buy product Y or not? These predictions have the tremendous benefits of being automated, accurate, and consistent.

However, troubling reports have recently surfaced that show how AI predictions can be biased and unfair to certain protected subgroups of the population. For example, AI predictions have discriminated against women in lending decisions; against Blacks in recidivism predictions; against low-income neighborhoods in crime predictions; against poor families in abuse predictions; and against women in HR decisions.

How does this happen and how can we fix it? In this talk, we explore the three main causes of AI bias and discuss four practical solutions to ensure AI fairness and get back on track to reap the rewards of AI predictions without discrimination and bias.

  • Dataiku Supervised Machine Learning Demo: Campaign Response Prediction

    11h00 - 11h30

New technology gives banks the power to collect, store, and analyze exponentially more information than was imaginable not too long ago. Many banks have taken first-step initiatives to align their people, processes, and technology.

Join Dataiku’s Solutions Engineer, Emma Irwin, as she showcases how to use Dataiku DSS 8.0 to predict customer response to a new product’s marketing campaign. Using data from a Portuguese bank and socio-economic context data such as employment variation rate and consumer price index, we will create a machine learning model able to predict if future customers will say yes or no to the product. Results are displayed on dashboards, accessible through an API, and automated using scenarios.

  • Fighting Financial Crime with Automated Machine Learning

    14h30 - 15h00

A key component of any financial crime compliance program is to monitor transactions for suspicious activity. Typically the systems that aim to detect potentially suspicious activity are commonly rule-based, and suffer from ultra-high false positive rates. Automated machine learning provides a solution to address this challenge by dynamically learning patterns in complex data and significantly improving your accuracy in predicting which cases will result in suspicious activity reports.

In this session, Ray Mi, a Customer-Facing Data Scientist for DataRobot will show how banks can implement automated machine learning to improve alert investigation efficiency, reduce false positive alerts and lower operational cost.

  • AI FOR ENTERPRISE REQUIRES UNIQUE TOOLS TO MEET THE NEEDS OF TEAMS WITHIN BUSINESS

    15h00 - 15h30

Attributes and real-world examples of the next-generation of software for AI in enterprise: a better means to collaborate, work smarter and get buy-in for your AI projects.

Previous software tools first designed to develop AI in academic research contexts are less-than-ideal for developing applied AI solutions for enterprise today. Here we present core attributes required for the next-generation of software tools needed to expedite the application of AI in business and industry. We begin with an overview of our research where we assessed the needs of hundreds of AI professionals as well as completed prototypes and simulations of various applied machine learning projects. These findings guided our development of a novel integrated development environment (IDE) for advanced machine learning projects that is visual and less abstract. Our discussion will focus on why features of our software help better meet the needs of AI professionals in enterprise, focusing on issues related to:

    • Better debugging of models and streamlined workflows;
    • Facilitating collaboration and input from non-technical members within the business as well as oversight by domain experts such as clinicians for health-related projects
    • Strengthened abilities to simulate outputs and renderings from machine-learning models in order to better demonstrate AI innovations to clients and regulators.

Throughout the presentation, we will frame each topic within actual case studies and projects we completed with our enterprise clients in industries that include defense, transportation, biomedical research and more.
