A multiple award winning Mission Systems and Project Engineer at MDA (Maxar Technologies), Rohaan Ahmed has worked on some exciting next-generation space robotics projects. The European Space Agency’s ExoMars 2020 Mars Rover, NASA’s Deep Space Exploration Lunar Platform, the International Space Station’s Canadarm2, and commercial On-orbit Satellite Servicing missions are just a few of the projects he has worked on in the recent past. He also leads Innovation and Business Development efforts at MDA, with specific focus on navigating and growing in the international New Space Economy.
Prior to joining MDA, Rohaan was Vice President of a local tech start-up, while also working full-time at Honeywell Aerospace as a Power Systems and Electromagnetics Engineer. In this role, he worked on systems R&D, design, testing, and qualification for several military and commercial aircraft, including the Airbus A380, A350, F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, and AW-149 helicopter.
Rohaan has always been passionate about innovation in Aerospace, Robotics, and Sustainability, and founded the University of Toronto’s Autonomous Robotics Systems team which designed an autonomous electric car for a complex real-world international competition. In addition to being an internationally experienced speaker on various topics, he has also contributed to several academic papers in the area of robotics. He holds a Masters degree in Aerospace Engineering and a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, both from the University of Toronto, and is a certified Professional Engineer, Project Management Professional, Six Sigma Greenbelt, and UofT ELITE.
Rohaan values real-world adventure, and will try just about anything! He has backpacked around 22 countries, jumped out of a plane at 14,000ft in California, SCUBA-dived in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Mexico, camped atop an abandoned active volcano with his wife, and much more. He looks forward to experiencing the world and everything in it.
