Mathieu earned a Ph.D. in physics from Cornell University, where he was the first to successfully use neural networks for the task of particle classification at the large hadron collider. He then switched to the private sector, working for the hedge fund Point72 as a data scientist. He was extracting and back-testing fundamental trading signals from petabyte large datasets.
He then joined Bloomberg in 2016, working on a variety of machine learning topics such as twitter sentiment analysis, automatic extraction of data from the image of charts, forecasting recessions, etc. More recently he has been working on using client usage data to enhance the client experience on the Bloomberg terminal.
